This is an excellent game. This has realistic controls, this can be judged by the amount of different buttons used through out the game, the more buttons, usually the more realistic. The only slight problem with the program is that it uses polygon colouring instead of more realistic texturing, meaning that creating planes with different paint jobs is all the more hard, and making the ground a green shade, instead of the many different colours it actually is.
However, the game has an excellent multiplayer feature that enables you to set up servers, network play, internet play, etc. Which is excellent stress relief. Go on, shoot someone out of the sky, go off again. And setting up your own servers is fun if you are trying to create aerial acrobatics teams and other team based play. Excellent all round really. Some people complain that the graphics are bad. I will not deny that.
YSFlight is a free-to-play flight simulator created by Soji Yamakawa in 1999. Its main creation purpose was for the development of a stable game engine fast enough to run on early laptops. YSFlight has developed over the years from a simple game engine for a laptop to a full-fledged flight. Ys flight controls, Robosize for Visual Basic 6.0 2.4, DirectSound/DirectMusic OCX 2.5, Flight Ultimate 1.
But do good graphics make the game? Absolutely not. I've been flying this longer than I can remember, and the installation of addons allows it to change and expand to a point where it has decent graphics. I find the system to be very visually clean.
It can run on a huge variety of different operating systems and computer levels, and is continually being expanded. Also, to the nay-sayers, keep in mind that this is one man working by himself on his spare time, where competing sims are made by full-time companies. To the previous anonymous: did you Google it? Did you actually look for help before spouting here? Whether you like YS flight sim 2000 really depends on what you look for in a game. If you are after hard and fast and really pretty games then you are in for disappointment.
If however you are more in to ultra realistic sims then this one is for you. YS flight sim has ultra realistic controls, physics and general feel. The maker puts it well 'YS Flight Sim is for Airplane Fans, Virtual Pilots and 3D Graphics Programmers' It has almost every flying thing from Boeings to fighter jets. There are also a large number of individual missions you can attempt to complete. YS Flight sim is a great game and has received an Online Software Award 2001.
I've played the game all of two days and really don't care for it. An interesting idea but flight controls are.well they need improvement. Maybe this is off base but the controls seem like they were developed for a game console and not PC. Why isn't there any rudder control? The unused A and D buttons could be used. On planes that were so equipped why not add a Artificial Horizon display?
Boost may be OK for a game pad, but with a keyboard Throttle would be better. What do you think of these ideas? Do you have any suggestions of your own?
I like the way you stated this, honest and not inflaming in anyway. To address a couple things you mentioned, I am assuming you are using mouse and keyboard controls and not just the keyboard. If you have access to a joystick or even an X-Box controller give them a try and see how you like it. A and D keys can be mapped to rudder in the settings menu. There is throttle, I'm not sure if it can be mapped to the keyboard, I play joystick myself, but I'm pretty sure it can be. As far as your second suggestion, that has been suggested for a long time, back in closed beta as well as Alpha (I think wasn't here for alpha). There is an artificail horizon you can turn on from the settings menu but it is not intuitive, it shows your angle to the horizon by rotating a set of lines around an invisible line parallel to your wings.
I hope you will give it another shot after adjusting your settings some before passing your final judgment on the game. Here are some Key Binds that have help many get better control of their aircraft. A and D for Roll Q and E for Rudder Set these for what works for yourself. W boost, S Air Brake & throttle to Zero R for Flaps (I use #4 Mouse button for Rockets and Space bar for bomb drops) L for leveling Aircraft Under advanced mouse controls there are many additional settings. There are several posts on tweaks for these. I keep Flaps on automatic Rear view I have set to F.
Easy to hit there on Climb out after an attack it levels the aircrafts wings and freezes all control inputs. Use the training function to refine settings. It is in area to right of bottom center battle button. Create a room and staff with bots of your choice to work with you and as targets. Happy Hunting to All. Hang in there.
I crashed my 1st ten games in a row and it took me 100 or so to get the controls the way I liked them and had to relearn and reset a bit with the new customizations. If you use mouse, go into advanced settings and make sure the camera is set to 'locked on horizon' if you use the 'standard' mouse settings. As Niht pointed out, you can map keys for roll, yaw and even throttle with the new settings. Basically, under standard mouse control, the AI will attempt to keep your plane at optimal speed. In this game, your aicraft will perform best within it's optimal altitude and speed ranges (visible on the screen as green shaded ladder bars on the left and right of your aiming reticle/HUD. Take some time in training rooms (you can select any map and add some bots to do solo practice) by clicking the text to the right of the 'Battle' button and selecting 'team traning room'.
Fly a bit and then work on your keybinds until you get a comfortable setting. If you like flight games, or shooters, take some time to get comfortable with the controls and the payoff is a fun game. G/L and hope to see you in the skies! I have been using the mouse/keyboard combo even though i have a very nice X52 joystick. The reason is that i have some issues with getting disoriented and because of a medical condition get headaches and sick to my stomach with the horizon not fixed. Therefore i am currently forced to put aside my expensive joystick and use the mouse/keyboard as it has the option for the camera to be set to 'locked on horizon' Please ask the development team to add this feature to the joystick option. I am sure I am not alone with this request as i am sure i am not alone with this type of medical issue.
Thank you for your consideration.:-). Thank you for your responses. Got the rudder to working and have shifted to a joystick controller.
Maneuverability with a joystick is increased dramatically but I'm all over the sky right now. So I think (hope actually) I'm on track to fixing a few problems that are really my own fault. As an added comment on game controls: It just seems really weird that the plane will stay exactly at angle/pitch/roll you last input and has no airframe characteristics. I'll check back here at least once a day. Please add anything else you can think of. Thank you for your responses.

Stalls were just changed last patch, they actually have some effect on the planes now were before they did nothing but make you nose over. Have you tried adjusting the joystick curve in teh settings menu? You can add up to 8 points to customize the feel to your liking.

Use DrSinister's guide for setting up your joystick, you can find it in the forums at. Hello, I am an actual pilot and I found the mouse controls to be frustrating and counterintuitive. Simply impossible to fly using the mouse.
For examples on how to do this, look at any flight simulator sim or the Google Earth aircraft mode. They work exactly as one would expect: Mouse Up = stick forward Mouse Down = stick back Mouse Left = stick left Mouse Right = stick right Mouse wheel can handle throttle: roll away from you (forward direction): increase throttle roll towards you (backward): reduce throttle (and beyond a certain point engage air brake for aircraft that have them) KEY POINT: stick position should NOT change no matter what the aircraft does. Only user input should change it. If I have it to the left, it should stay there as long as I keep it there. I should not need to make further inputs. Flying with a mouse is never ideal but it can work reasonably well, and does, if the mouse position is treated as a stick position. If you cannot change the existing mouse arrangement, then add a 'flight sim mode', or something.
As it stands I simply cannot fly it and don't want to retrain my brain to manage an unnatural control scheme. It would also greatly help to have a forward view from inside the cockpit, not from outside the airplane, which feels weird. I have wanted THIS for quite a while now: I have been playing this game for a good long while, and have noticed a variety of complaints about the camera and mouse controls. The base problem appears to be that the arcade (common) setup can cause maneuvering issues in close quarters and is difficult to aim, while the 'vector' based systems (3.5 and 4.1) are.DIFFICULT to learn.
It is thus my proposal that the option to fix the camera behind the plane be added to a new control setup where roll has been remapped to mouse horizontal. This would eliminate the 'death spin' that can occur with 'vector' while attempting to turn; the new system would force the player to roll their plane and then tilt up to turn, similar to how you might turn if you used the A and D keys to roll and could only tilt up and down with the mouse. This control scheme would NOT have auto-level active, allowing relatively small mouse adjustments to control aircraft movement.
While this control scheme may sound complex to implement, I have used it for some time in the free flight simulator YS flight, where it has been able to control both fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft with EXTREME precision. I would suggest that this control scheme be made available if at all possible, and urge WG devs to contact me with any questions.
Sincerely, Cmmdrsigma1, Support Aircraft-Interceptor specialist. I think the old 'Standard' WoT style mouse scheme is pretty intuitive for beginners, moreso than the rest of the mouse control options. The main drawbacks are: 1.) The odd and poorly timed camera flips when the camera is fixed on the horizon and 2.) When the mouse is pointed beyond about 90 degrees, the aircraft continues to fly roughly straight. Devs., if you can fix these two things, I think you've got a winner with the mouse controls.
For instance, if I manage to point my mouse 180 degrees (directly behind) my current heading, I want that plane doing a max turn right freaking now. Then, allow us to bind the roll to the A and D keys and lock the horizon on the plane while keeping the rest of the functionality, and you fix the odd camera flipping at the wrong times. Finally, for JS users, you should really put in some selectable pre-adjusted curve options and dead spots for (reducing) JS sensitivity. That would eliminate some of the trial and error and pure frustration with figuring out that control scheme. I have been having problems with my rudder sticking to the left. This makes it impossible to fly in a straight line, which makes the game unplayable. I have a CH F-16 Combat Stick which apparantly isn't supported.
I use the joystick to fly but it doesn't twist to control the rudder like the continuous on screen tips keep telling me to do. Using the A or D key has no affect. So as it sits for me presently this game is unplayable unless they fix the joystick and rudder control. Has anyone else had similar issues?
